Evernote is powerful and searchable, but its proprietary format keeps your notes locked in. Joplin is free, open source, and encrypted by default, with sync across every platform. Learn how to convert your Evernote notes to Joplin in a few simple steps below.
Export your Evernote notes

Open Evernote on your computer: The export feature lives in the Evernote desktop app (Windows or macOS), not the web app.

Select what you want to export: Click a notebook to export everything in it, or hold Ctrl (Windows) / ⌘ (macOS) and click the individual notes you want.

Export as ENEX: Right-click your selection and choose Export notebook… (or Export… for selected notes). Choose ENEX format, check the attributes you want, click Export, and pick where to save the .enex file. If you have multiple notebooks, repeat the process to export each one separately.
Convert your notes

Import into Notes Convert: Open Notes Convert and set the import format to Evernote. Click Open File and select the .enex file you exported from Evernote. Notes Convert reads ENEX directly, including attachments and tags.

Choose Joplin and convert: Pick Joplin as the output format, click Convert, choose where to save your notes, and wait for the conversion.

Open Joplin on your computer: Import is available in the desktop app.

Go to File → Import: If you exported your notes as Joplin, choose ENEX - Evernote Export File (as Markdown) and select the .enex file Notes Convert produced. If you exported them as Joplin (Markdown) instead, choose MD - Markdown (Directory) and select the folder with the .md files Notes Convert produced.

Find your imported notes: Joplin places everything into a new notebook named after the imported file or folder, ready for tags and reorganization.
