How to Convert Markdown Files to Notion

Markdown is the closest thing note-taking has to a universal language. Notion combines notes, databases, and wikis in one flexible workspace. Learn how to convert your Markdown files to Notion in a few simple steps below.

Convert your notes

With your Markdown files in a folder or .zip file, the conversion itself takes seconds. We'll use our app Notes Convert, the only notes conversion tool on the market, that runs entirely on your device. You can download Notes Convert here. It's free for 50 notes, and inexpensive for unlimited notes.

  1. Import into Notes Convert: Open Notes Convert and set the import format to Markdown. Click Open Folder… and select the folder with your Markdown notes, or click Open File… and select a .zip of that folder. Notes Convert adds the structure of the target format while keeping your content intact.

  2. Choose Notion and convert: Pick Notion as the output format, click Convert, choose where to save your notes, and wait for the conversion.

Import into Notion

  1. Open Notion: Use the desktop app or any browser.

  2. Open the import dialog: Go to Settings → Import.

  3. Import the ZIP file: In the "Convert Zip to pages" section, drag and drop the .zip file Notes Convert produced, or click Choose file… and select it. Notion converts your notes into pages inside your workspace. Notion support in Notes Convert is currently experimental, so a few features may not come over perfectly — compatibility keeps improving in future versions.
